I’m not a dance mom. Neither of my girls were dancers, and up until this year I’d never been to a dance recital. A couple of weeks ago that changed when my grandson had two performances in his studio’s year end show. Other grandma was responsible for getting him there and prepared, so all we had to do was show up and watch. That’s when the trouble started 🙂
When my grandson’s performance was about to begin, we both pulled out our phones to capture the moment for family members who weren’t able to make it. That’s when a man sitting behind us, came up and hissed in our ears that we were ‘to immediately put our phones away’, that we ‘were not allowed to record HIS show’.
We were both shocked. Yes, we put our phones away, but his angry comment has stuck with both of us long after the performance. Is it really that bad to record a dance performance on my personal phone? If so, did he have to be so nasty about it? It has left a nasty taste for not only the dance studio involved, but my interest in attending any further performances.
How would you have handled it?
