Local London, Ontario beer crafters Forked River Brewing Company recently announced the launch of a Remembrance Day campaign that will see a portion of the proceeds from their new flavour donated to veterans.
From the Forked River Facebook post announcing the campaign, their new “Flanders Red Ale” will see “$1 from each bottle of Flanders Red will be donated to Soldier On / Sans Limites: a Canadian Armed Forces program that supports currently serving members and veterans to overcome their physical or mental health illness or injury through physical activity and sport.”.
The original Facebook post can be found here, and you can read a reprint of the post below.
Announcing Flanders Red Ale: our latest beer release which is helping to raise funds for our soldiers and veterans.
For us Canadians, the regions of Vimy and Flanders evoke some of the most patriotic of emotions. How could we release a Flanders Red without thinking about those who have sacrificed so much for us all. They deserve to be remembered and honoured. But beyond that, today’s veterans deserve our support. $1 from each bottle of Flanders Red will be donated to Soldier On / Sans Limites: a Canadian Armed Forces program that supports currently serving members and veterans to overcome their physical or mental health illness or injury through physical activity and sport.
Complex, special, remarkable—Flanders Red Ale is a style of sour ale brewed in West Flanders, Belgium and due to their colour, long ageing, and flavours are often described as the most wine-like of all beers; in fact, the Flanders Red Ale is often referred to as the “Burgundy of Belgium”.
Our version of this pinnacle in sour beers has been aged in red wine barrels for a full year, and has all those classic flavours, such as black cherry, plums and red currants in a deep sourness that may surprise you. While the Flanders Red may be an acquired taste, it is unquestionably a beer you need to try if you are looking to expand your beer education.
For those of us who have family who left to serve our country and never made it back home, or did but need our help, and for those who want a truly unique and rare beer style that simply must be appreciated, pick up a bottle of Flanders Red at our retail store.
Lest we forget.
