Bowmanville Zoo director Michael Hackenberger appeared on Breakfast television Friday morning to show off some the zoo’s collection of animals.
The appearance did not go well.
People went crazy on social media after microphones picked up Hackenberger swearing at a monkey. The monkey in question was supposed to be riding on the back of a mini-horse, but hopped off mid-ride. That’s when microphones picked up Hackenberger calling the monkey a “f—— c———“.
See for yourself.
Breakfast Television issued the following statement on Twitter following the segment.
What happened today was unacceptable and does not reflect our values at BT. As a result, we will no longer be visiting the Bowmanville Zoo.— Breakfast Television (@BTtoronto) August 28, 2015
Some are calling for Hackenberger to be fired.
Others are using this opportunity to call for a boycott of the Bowmanville Zoo.
For his part, Bowmanville Zoo director Hackenberger reportedly doesn’t feel “the incident was major enough to address publicly.”.
What do you think? Should he be fired? Should the zoo be boycotted? Is this an honest mistake? An overblown controversy?
